PORT TOWNSEND SUMMER BAND AUGUST 27 , 2011 3 pm

Returning for the third straight year, Friends of Fort Flagler present the Port Townsend Summer Band, Saturday August 27 at 3 pm.  The goal of the band is to perform concerts in a style reminiscent of those that were popular from the late 1800’s through the 1950’s.  The band plays a mixture of  concert pieces and marches.  Some of the pieces on the program include: "The Duke of Marlborough" Fanfare by Percy Grainger, Blue Tango by Leroy Anderson, Revival March by John Philip Sousa, and The Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa. This concert will be a special treat from years gone by. Bring a blanket and picnic on the lawn. The Discover and Access pass are not required to attend this event,  however both passes support our parks so please purchase one so you can enjoy other parts of Fort Flagler. Admission is $5. Please note the start time is 3 pm.

About Friends of Fort Flagler

The Friends of Fort Flagler group was formed in 1999 from a nucleus of people involved in the Centennial celebration at Fort Flagler State Park. Preparations for the celebration identified a wealth of undeveloped and unrealized potential as well as the need for major restoration and preservation.
The first Friends meeting had 15 attendees and a million opinions and suggestions. We all saw numerous projects needing immediate attention and we each had a plan to resolve them. How it would all be accomplished was a point for much discussion but we all had a common objective. Our mission statement wrote itself:
To Restore, Preserve, and Protect the history of Fort Flagler as well as provide assistance and support for
the park staff.
